At the time of writing this I have been with my husband, Dave, for over 12 blooming marvellous years  and we're celebrating our 11th wedding anniversary this year. We have 2 boys who are Freddie, 9 and George, 6 years old.

I am super proud to be the Co founder / Director of  The Little Birth Company along with the magical Wendy Wood. Our skills combine to make a complete birth preparation package for all families.

My enthusiasm for supporting women and their families has grown and grown after my own experience of becoming a Mum.

I had worked in childcare for over 20 years when we finally welcomed our first son into the world. I was confident with him and had no issues with breastfeeding – however I was very aware of the lack of support. I remember thinking about other new Mums who perhaps hadn’t had my, 20 years, experience caring for other peoples’ children. How scary must this experience be for them?? The endless guilt and questioning whether we are doing things ’right.’

This got me asking myself “what could I do to support these women?” I came across the world of Doulas’ and my journey began.

My own experience tells me that we need really great pregnancy education, followed by a positive support network to guide us through the early months of motherhood.

The type of education that empowers us to trust our instincts…to do things our own way, in a way that feels right to us, whilst taking on board the information that our care providers give to us…to believe in ourselves physically and emotionally.

The Little Birth Company aims to give you the confidence to birth in the way that you want to and to give you some fabulous tools to help.

Over the years I have trained in many antenatal and postnatal qualifications:

  • Hypnobirthing
  • Mindful Breastfeeding
  • Pregnancy Yoga
  • Baby Massage
  • Clinical Hypnotherapist
  • Doula
  • Level 4 in Children’s Care, Learning & Education.
  • Baby wearing peer support
  • Rebozo
  • Mindful meditation

I have realised that it is a combination of things that will prepare you the best to meet your baby. As well as the practical and physical preparation you cannot underestimate the importance of emotional preparation.

I need to make it very clear to you that I am pro birth….any birth. I had a caesarean section with Freddie, due to his breech position, followed by a home birth of an 11lb beauty. Both experiences were amazing. I don’t believe that one was better than the other and I know that you can feel empowered by every type of birth…as long as the decisions were yours and as long as you were treated like the goddess that you are, regardless of your choices.

My support has always gone beyond the classes that I teach and I love to meet up with families that have been to my classes and have a cheeky snuggle with their newborn bundle.

I am delighted to come together with Wendy and introduce you to this wonderful programme.
