About

My name is Jessica Reynolds and I am a Mum to two girls Poppy (born in April 2019) and Millie (born in April 2022). I was lucky enough to learn about hypnobirthing during my first pregnancy when I picked up a book on it that was highly rated. Within a couple of chapters I was hooked, it all made total sense and I could not believe that nobody had talked to me about birth in this way before. I went from feeling totally petrified about birth to feeling like it could be something I could actually look forward to! I booked on to a 4 week group hypnobirthing course and by the end of the course I was obsessed, I fully committed to doing all of the practice at home and took all of the knowledge I had on birthing environment, positions for birth, breathing and relaxation techniques into my birth! I went on to have the most amazing water birth in the Mulberry Birthing Centre at Frimley Park. Reflecting afterwards I knew that it wasn’t just luck that had brought me the birth I experienced, it was everything I had done which allowed my body and my baby to work in perfect harmony to bring her comfortably into the world.

Between then and my second pregnancy I continued my passion for hypnobirthing, I read books on it, followed endless Instagram accounts and blogs, listened to podcasts and devoured positive birth stories with tears in my eyes. When I fell pregnant again I knew I wanted to have a home birth and so in 2022 Millie was born in the most magical water birth in our living room. It was everything I had dreamed of and I would do it over and over again in a heartbeat.

When myself, and lots of other people I know, were experiencing amazing births following hypnobirthing courses I began to feel frustrated with the fact that it was not more widely known about. It doesn’t seem fair to me that couples are still going into birth not being fully educated on the physiology of birth, the choices available to them and the impact that the choices they make can have on the outcome of their birth experience. It is this that has led me to train as a hypnobirthing instructor with The Little Birth Company and set up Calm Nest Birthing. I feel so passionately about antenatal education, spreading the word about hypnobirthing and helping couples reach a place where they feel excited for the time they meet their baby, confident in making choices and advocating for themselves, and prepared for the journey into parenthood and beyond.

First Time Mums Calm and Empowering Waterbirth

11th April, our due date, I felt great and was therefore convinced I was in for a long overdue waiting game, I went for a lovely swim in the morning and a walk around the lakes near our house in the afternoon. Then at about 4pm I sat in the garden in the sun reading […]
